Have you ever read a book and fallen in love with the city described in the book? I read a book years ago, my favorite book ever actually; Shadow of the Wind, and I fell in love. Not only with the story, not even with the actual city of Barcelona, but of the beauty I pictured of this magical land. I pictured myself walking underneath the lamp posts, looking into shops and seeing people in love.
I found the city described in my book. San Miguel de Allende was an early Spanish settlement so there’s a lot of Spanish influence in the buildings and architecture. It was suddenly on the top of my list of cities to see.
Our flights were a little pricey, as we chose to fly direct without any stops. Our hotel, Casaluna Boutique Hotel was about $143 per night and that was for a master suite. I’m telling you, pay the extra and get the master! We chose to fly into Leon/Guanajuato airport and we used BajioGo Shuttle Service to shuttle us to and from the Hotel. For the both of us it was $96 total, roundtrip.
When we first came upon our hotel all we saw was a door and my first thought was that the hotel was going to be super small! I was a bit concerned, but once I stepped through the doorway, it was an oasis of plants and greenery and all concerns quickly went away. There are a couple of courtyards and the rooms are basically set apart throughout the building. It was so serene and beautiful.
Our hotel was about a 5 minute walking distance from the main square, where theĀ Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel is located. In the square, tourists roam the streets, some sitting on the benches, some taking selfies in front of the church, and some in and out of the shops, restaurants and or museums. There are food vendors (some with elote! Yum!) as well as Mariachis. It’s magical. And romantic. Everything I ever dreamed of.
Part of our days were spent exploring the outskirts of the main square. We wanted to eat with the locals, and see the not so touristy parts of the city. We literally found the best tortas after a day of exploring! $24 pesos for a torta and coke!
I hope you enjoy the pictures!
Cheers to Firsts and Adventures with my Lover. Without him, this trip wouldn’t have happened. I love you.
