Hamilton Pool sits about 30 minutes west of Downtown Austin. We made a visit last year as part of our yearly family trip. Pictures and videos do not do this place justice! Many people have asked me about this place; so with Spring and Summer approaching, I thought I’d share a few pieces of information, pictures and videos about the preserve.
Note: Some videos are not posting properly and may come up sideways.
From May 15, 2017 through September 30, 2017 you have to have a reservation to get into the preserve. Apparently they were getting so full all the time that there were lines and lines of cars waiting to get in every day. When I first inquired about making the trip I was told that they opened at 8am; but that people start lining up at 5am! They’ve alleviated that with having families make reservations. Click here to make a reservation! Last year they gave you two options, either make a reservation from 9am – 1pm or 2pm – 6pm. It’s $11 to make the reservation online and then you pay $15 at the gate. These prices are per vehicle. I recommend making your reservation early. I began looking in May to make a reservation for July 4th weekend and they were booked up. This year the online reservation system will be open in April.
The actual preserve is a short 10 minute hike from the parking area. You can bring lounge chairs, towels, food and drinks. The view is breathtaking. The water was a little cool in July, but we enjoyed spending half the day there. It was a first for us, and ya’ll know how I love firsts!

It’s definitely a trip worth taking, especially if you’re already traveling to Austin. We are headed down there in May and I can’t wait to make Hamilton Pool a part of it!
