My family and I took a mini vacation a couple weeks ago to Galveston Island, here in Texas. I’ve been to Galveston so many times and have stayed in so many different places, I now know what type of hotel/condo/house I want to stay in. I had a lot of people asking where we stayed or where I’ve stayed there that I liked. I thought I would share a few pieces of info for any of you looking into a trip there.
First of all, when you’re looking into lodging, you’ve got to know whether you want to stay close to the beach, on the beach or just somewhere to sleep that’s cheap. We like to cook some of our own meals, especially breakfast or lunch, so we always look for a place that has a fully equipped kitchen. When we go on a full-on family vacation with my parents and sister’s family, we usually look for a house either on the beach or close by the beach with a pool.
If I plan to stay in a hotel, I always look for one that’s right on the beach. When searching on sites like Hotels.com or Expedia you’re going to see many hotels that will say “Beach Hotel” or “Beach View.” And you want to be very careful because most of them are not directly on the beach. Many of them you have to cross the busy main street to get to beach access. I’ve always wanted to stay at the fancy Hotel Galvez, but I just can’t fathom being at a nice, pricey hotel where you’re going to have to load up your beach gear and hike across the busy street to get to your destination!
If you’re looking to stay on the beach I highly recommend Holiday Inn Club Vacations. They have a great beach area, and they usually clean it way early in the mornings so you don’t have any debris or seaweed. I loved this hotel because it’s modern and roomy. They have a full equipped kitchen. I believe last time we were there we stayed in a two bedroom villa that faced the pool. We’d do the beach all day, come back and cook dinner while the kids were in the pool, then brought the food out there to enjoy.
The most recent place we stayed was at Seascape Resort Beachfront Condos. These condos are a bit outdated in the interior. BUT we stayed in a condo that has a bedroom, pull out sleeper and a set of bunk beds, so it was perfect for my family. We didn’t really mind the decor on the inside, it was clean and functional so it worked! This hotel is right on the beach, so we loved that. And there is a view of the beach from many of the condos. If you’re looking for a sandy beach area, this isn’t the place for you. The hotel sits over the seawall, and the seawall keeps the tide from going up any further, but you can tell that it hits the seawall every night. On our last day the tide was so high that the beach was filled with about a foot of water. These condos all have a fully equipped kitchen.

There are many restaurants and activities to do throughout the Island, but from experience; you’ve got to visit a couple of places! For breakfast make sure to check out Bronco Burritos over at 4917 Broadway St, Galveston, TX 77551. I swear everything we tried was good! I didn’t get a picture because we picked up as we were about to drive home! If you’re looking for pizza, stop by Papa’s Pizza! Best local pizza on the island! I also recommend Pleasure Pier! Kids love riding the rides and I love eating the funnel cakes and turkey legs!
